An editorial assessment is a review of existing material with a constructive critique and game plan development for your next steps.

Our Stage One package combines our editorial assessment with four hours of phone or video consulting, allowing us to take a deep dive into your book and partner with you to hone your concept, help you find your writing voice, finish that manuscript, and ready your work for the next stage of production.

WHAT IS DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING?

Part therapist, part writing coach, part book doula––a developmental editor helps an author during the writing process itself by offering feedback about voice, story structure, and character development. They identify if there are any weak story points or continuity issues that need addressing. They can develop a style guide for your book that will be referenced by the copy editor and proofreader at later stages.

A developmental editor may join a project early in a book’s development, once a potential final draft is complete, or anywhere in between.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COPY EDITOR AND A PROOFREADER?

After you’ve worked with a developmental editor, your book needs another set of eyes. Or two sets.

Copy editors get into the nitty gritty of word nerdery, like spelling, grammar, and punctuation. They may suggest small rewrites for clarity and flow.

Proofreaders are there to make technical changes in the final proof before your book goes to publication. Human errors happen and a proofreader is there to cross every t and dot every i. Literally.
